Alumni in Action

Twenty years ago, several graduates of Leadership Plano saw a dream become a reality: a leadership training program for Plano ISD students that closely aligned with the curriculum and content of the successful adult leadership program sponsored by the Plano Chamber of Commerce. By May 2015, that dream program will boast more than 600 men and women who are counted among the Plano Youth Leadership (PYL) alumni.

In the so-called Plebe classes at each of the three United States military academies, there is a student who graduated from PYL Class 17, high school class year 2014: Taylor Chambers, West Point, Sam Schell, Air Force Academy, and Simic Tuan, Annapolis. Other PYL graduates include the Borgsmiller siblings. Savannah, PYL Class 16, University of Missouri, was chosen as one of five freshmen to serve in the university’s Summer Welcome Program. Savannah’s twin sister, Lainey, also PYL Class 16, University of Kentucky, was selected to be a peer instructor for the UK 101 Class. Their older brother, Logan, PYL Class 12, University of Missouri, graduated with a double major in International Studies and Political Science and a minor in Spanish. He works for the Federal Reserve in Kansas City.

Jaclyn Dearien, PYL Class 10, Colorado State University, is the Government Affairs Manager at the Colorado Association of REALTORS®. Reaching a bit further back, Brian Fishero, PYL Class 5, is now Dr. Brian Fishero. He is a graduate of Washington and Lee University, medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, and is currently a Resident in Otolaryngology at the University of Virginia. And from PYL Class 2, there is Jessica Via Jackson, the co-director of the Plano Balloon Festival.
